Indo-Western Navratri Outfits at the Last Minute

Save these looks for a last-minute Garba or Dandiya party

As someone who doesn’t live near any Indian clothing shops, I was lost on what to wear when I was attending my first Garba event in Sydney (at the very last minute). Online deliveries wouldn’t come in time, so I had to work with the few traditional Indian pieces I had. Below are some Indo-Western Navratri looks I created by fusing wardrobe staples with hand-crafted traditional pieces. Get ready to shine during this festive season…

Look 1: Bandhani Dupatta with White Corset Top & Pants

I’m so glad I picked up a Bandhani Dupatta in Jaipur. It adds a nice pop of color to many outfits, particularly during the Navratri season. I paired this tie-dye dupatta with a white long-sleeve corset top and white pants for a simple yet modern Navratri look. If you don’t own any white pants, a white skirt will do the trick, especially if you’re attending a Garba event.

Look 2: Bandhani Dupatta with White Corset Top & Jeans

If you want a casual look or don’t like wearing skirts, white jeans will do the trick! It adds a nice Western touch and adding jeans in white will make your outfit still look sophisticated.

Look 3: Bandhani Dupatta with Black Top & Black Skirt

Most of you will have a plain long-sleeved black top and black skirt somewhere in your wardrobe. The only black skirt I could find in my wardrobe wasn’t a traditional Garba skirt - it was a mini skirt with a sheer overlay on top. I’ve never worn this skirt before however I’ll definitely be removing the tag for the next Garba. It adds a unique and modern touch to any traditional outfit.

Look 4: Mirror Work Lehenga with Black Top & Dupatta

If you want a more traditional Navratri outfit with a slightly modern touch, this outfit is for you! Instead of pairing a traditional lehenga skirt with a matching choli, swap it out with a black long-sleeve top. This is a nice Indo-Western look and you’ll probably also be more comfortable - as sometimes I find old blouses can be tight (could just be me though…).

Look 5: Mirror Work Lehenga with Black Corset Top & Dupatta

Mirror mirror on the wall, who will be the most glamorous of them all? You surely will be. This look pairs a mirror work lehenga with a black corset top for a modern & mysterious look.

Look 6: Mirror Work Lehenga with White Linen Shirt

If you’re going to a more casual Navratri event but still want to flaunt your lehenga, pair it with a white linen shirt for a more relaxed look.

Look 7: Mirror Work Choli with Pastel Pants & Dupatta

If you’re not a fan of wearing skirts, don’t be afraid to wear paints, especially if you’re attending a Dandiya event. It’s hard enough trying to make sure you don’t accidentally hit someone in the face, why add tripping over your skirt to the equation? Opt for pastel pants, like my ones from Zara, to make your choli and dupatta stand out!

Look 8: Mirror Work Lehenga with White Corset Top & Dupatta

And…I saved my best look to last. This is an elegant yet modern outfit that I’m sure will turn heads at your last-minute garba or dandiya event. If you don’t have time to alter a blouse, pairing a lehenga with a dressy white top you may already have in your wardrobe will do the trick.

Styling Each Outfit

The good thing about these outfits is that they will go well with almost any classic silver Jhumka Set. You won’t have to go out of the way to buy jewellery. For some looks, I paired them with flower garlands, that I hand-made with flowers from my garden.

If you want to get Dandiya sticks to match each outfit, Amazon has a lot of different colours to choose from.

Last-minute outfit decisions don’t have to mean compromising on style, especially during the lively and colorful celebrations of Navratri. These Indo-Western Narvati outfit ideas offer a perfect blend of tradition and contemporary flair. So, go ahead and enjoy the festivities with confidence, knowing you’ve got a chic outfit that’s perfect for dancing the night away 💃🏽✨
